The Adour Valley
Near your Hôtel de la Vallée in Lourdes center is the Adour Valley, which takes you from the Pyrenees to the Gers.
Mauvezin
35 km from Lourdes, or around 50 min. by car, the Château de Mauvezin was built by the counts of Bigorre in the 11th century and then rebuilt in 1380 by Gaston Fébus.
Today, completely restored, it houses a historical museum with a panoramic view of the Pyrenees range.
Below Mauvezin is the Escaladieu Abbey, founded in 1140. It is open to the public and regularly houses artistic exhibitions.
Bagnères de Bigorre
Located 20km from Lourdes, or around 30 min. by car.
Bagnères de Bigorre is a spa town with many places of interest, including the Grands Thermes near the Casino, the Tour des Jacobins or the Church of St Vincent.
While strolling near the covered market, you can discover many half-timbered facades which add to the charm of the city center.
In the surrounding area, the Caves of Médous are worth a detour on the road to the famous Cols du Tourmalet and d'Aspin dominated by the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, accessible from La Mongie.
Saint Bertrand de Comminges
Located 80 km from Lourdes, about 1 hour by car, the medieval city of St Bertrand de Comminges is located on a promontory visible from a distance.
The city is made up of half-timbered houses dating from the 15th century. At the top of the city, the elegant Ste Marie cathedral built in the 11th century, in Romanesque-Gothic style, has a 12th century cloister.
